Rodney Band

Turning bowls is a labour of love for Rodney Band.  Each bowl is unique, as each piece of wood has a certain character that comes to life as the bowl is turned on the lathe and slowly shaped into its final form. As a wood turner roots are more tricky to turn on the lathe, but have a far more satisfying result as they are more challenging but also inspire Band to keep searching for interesting and beautiful pieces to work from. It takes several days to perfect each bowl.  He creates approximately 30 bowls per year and each one is entirely different. Band uses a variety of woods, predominately indigenous, and has turned beautiful bowls out of African Blackwood, Mupani root, Iron wood, Lead wood, Wild Olive, Cork Oak and even spalted driftwood.
